Child's Rocker, latex paint on furniture
Class: Sculpture
Task: Choose and paint a piece of furniture to sell as a school fund raiser (parents have first dibs, then teachers, then the general public).
Solution: Use bright primary and secondary colors. Paint the chair as if it was created of oversized crayons, pencils and rulers. Paint the seat with a child-like drawing. Encourage learning through the use of words, colors, and numbers.
Result: The piece was priced at $50. But, because this chair was desired by so many people, the school switched the yearly fund raiser to a silent auction the very next year, enabling them to raise more money for the art department.
